Dear Friends of Travná,

Last year Adolf Petr passed away, but the ministry he began at Travná still continues by God’s grace. More and more people continue to attend our camps, which gives us great joy, but also makes us realize the need to expand and improve our facilities.

Because our main building is simply inadequate to hold the numbers of youth coming to our camps, and because it cannot properly accommodate families and older guests who need a bit more privacy and quiet, we have decided to renovate our smaller building, Veselý Domek.

Other reasons led us to this decision. We plan to do as much of the reconstruction ourselves. This project will give us needed experience and “know how” for the future when we will renovate our main building. Veselý Domek will also provide extra accommodation during the renovation of our main building in the future. And looking into the future, we hope that the house will serve as a residence for a permanent maintenance person at Travná.

We decided to do as much of the work ourselves because we believe that working together builds community, deepens friendships, and connects people. It is an opportunity to live out spiritual truths practically. Ora et labora: pray and work, is centuries old Christian saying. Those of you who have been at a work camp at Travná can confirm that the experience of working together for God’s kingdom is worth it. Placing our hands on a common goal connects our hearts as well.
